Staff Correspondent: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday urged students to equip themselves with the knowledge, skills and values needed to help build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh, describing the younger generation as the nation’s future leaders.
He made the remarks while hosting a luncheon at the VIP Cafeteria of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban for students, teachers and visitors from different educational institutions who had earlier observed the parliamentary session, according to Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.
The Prime Minister said the country’s progress would largely depend on the capabilities, integrity and leadership of today’s students. He encouraged them to pursue academic excellence while also developing practical skills, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Emphasising the importance of balanced growth, Tarique Rahman urged students not to limit themselves to classroom learning. Alongside their studies, he said, they should actively participate in sports and extracurricular activities to build confidence, teamwork and leadership qualities.
He also interacted with the students during the luncheon, asking about their studies, aspirations and experiences, and exchanged views with them on a range of issues.
The luncheon was attended by 29 law students from the Canadian University of Bangladesh, 21 students and teachers associated with Surabhi, a partner organisation of the Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), including several underprivileged students, and 16 students and teachers from the Tejgaon College Debating Society.
The students and teachers thanked the Prime Minister for giving them the opportunity to visit the Parliament and interact with him. They described the experience as both educational and inspiring.
As part of the programme, the visitors learned about the functions and activities of the Parliament Secretariat, toured the Parliament Library, took part in a photo session at the North Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, and watched the parliamentary proceedings from the visitors’ gallery.
The initiative was aimed at familiarising young people with the country’s parliamentary system and encouraging greater civic awareness among students.
