Road Transport, Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam has inspected the ongoing construction of an elevated road and the widening of the existing road from Panchabati in Narayanganj to Muktarpur Bridge in Munshiganj, expressing the importance of maintaining construction quality, durability and aesthetic standards.

During Thursday’s visit, the minister reviewed progress on different components of the project, including protective walls and shuttering works.

He instructed the officials concerned to maintain construction standards and improve the finishing of roadside walls to ensure a more attractive appearance.

Emphasising the importance of combining engineering excellence with architectural design, Sheikh Robiul Alam said construction quality reflects a country’s technical capabilities and expertise.

He stressed that completing infrastructure projects alone was not enough; durability, quality, appearance and overall construction standards must also be ensured. He directed officials, engineers and contractors to complete the work responsibly in accordance with the prescribed standards.

The minister said the elevated road project is expected to open to traffic by December.

Mohammad Abdur Rouf, secretary of the Bridges Division and executive director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, briefed the minister on the project’s overall progress, ongoing construction activities and implementation status.

The project includes widening the existing road between Panchabati and Muktarpur Bridge and constructing an elevated road along the route.

Once operational, the project is expected to improve road connectivity between Narayanganj, Munshiganj and surrounding areas, reduce traffic congestion and travel time, and facilitate faster transportation of goods from nearby industrial zones.

Officials from the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, engineers, project personnel and representatives of the contractor were present during the inspection.
