Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on people of all religious and ethnic backgrounds to work together in building the country, rising above religious identities.
He said people had fought shoulder to shoulder during the 1971 Liberation War, the movement to restore democracy and the 2024 mass uprising, regardless of their religious or ethnic identities.
“Similarly, everyone must work together in the struggle to build the country in the days ahead, rising above religious identities,” he said.
The prime minister made the remarks on Sunday night while attending programmes organised on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja at Puja mandaps in the capital’s Mohakhali and Gulshan-Banani areas.
His wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, accompanied him during the visits.
Tarique Rahman emphasised the importance of unity among people of different faiths and communities, recalling their collective participation in major national struggles.
His remarks came amid the ongoing celebrations of Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community in Bangladesh.
The prime minister’s message underscored the importance of national solidarity and cooperation among people from all religious and ethnic backgrounds in the country’s future development.
