The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed former national captain Mohammad Ashraful from his role as the national team’s batting coach ahead of the upcoming two-Test home series against the West Indies.

Ashraful confirmed on Saturday that he had been relieved of the responsibility after being informed of the decision by BCB cricket operations officials.

Mohammad Salahuddin, the national team’s senior assistant coach and head coach of the High Performance Unit, will oversee the batting department on an interim basis during the West Indies series, which begins on October 28 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

The decision comes after Bangladesh’s disappointing batting performances in recent matches, including the tri-nation ODI series in Abu Dhabi, where the team struggled to post competitive totals.

Ashraful was appointed batting coach in November 2025, initially for the home series against Ireland.

His tenure was subsequently extended, with his contract reportedly running until the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The BCB is also considering appointing a foreign batting coach after the West Indies series.
