Low-pressure system may turn into cyclone by tomorrow

A well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal may intensify into a cyclonic storm, with the possibility of developing into a cyclone by October 26, according to weather forecasts.

The system is currently over the east-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. It is expected to intensify gradually and move towards the coast of India’s Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Odisha.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has said the possibility of the system moving directly towards Bangladesh is low, although it cannot be ruled out entirely.

The system may bring increased rainfall to Bangladesh from October 27, particularly in the coastal divisions of Khulna,

Barishal and Chattogram. Rainfall could spread to other parts of the country in the following days.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to avoid venturing into deep waters until further notice.

Authorities are monitoring the system, and its projected path and intensity may change as updated weather data becomes available.
