A low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal coast has intensified into a well-marked low and is now located over the Odisha-West Bengal coastal region, prompting Bangladesh’s weather authorities to maintain Local Warning Signal No. 3 at all four seaports.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issued the warning on Sunday in a bulletin signed by meteorologist Afroza Sultana.
According to the advisory, the system may intensify further, bringing squally weather to the northern Bay of Bengal, adjoining areas and Bangladesh’s coastal regions.
In view of the evolving weather conditions, the BMD has instructed the seaports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to continue displaying Local Warning Signal No. 3.
The department also advised all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal to remain close to the coast and navigate with caution until further notice.
