US President Donald Trump has hinted that the United States could launch fresh military strikes against Iran as early as Sunday, October 25, while leaving open the possibility of reaching a major agreement with Tehran.
Speaking to reporters after casting his ballot in Florida on Saturday, Trump declined to disclose whether Washington would launch another attack.
Asked about the possibility of renewed military action, he said, “Maybe tomorrow,” adding that a major agreement with Iran was also possible. He expressed doubts, however, about whether Tehran would honour any deal.
Trump praised the performance of the US military and maintained that Washington had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities.
His remarks came amid continuing tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and the US naval blockade of Iranian ports.
Reports circulated on Saturday that Iran had offered, through Pakistani mediators, to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for Washington lifting its naval blockade and resuming negotiations.
However, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Tehran had denied submitting such a proposal.
Iranian sources also rejected claims that reopening the strategic waterway was being offered in exchange for lifting the blockade.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical shipping route for global oil supplies.
Any further military escalation or prolonged disruption to maritime traffic could affect energy markets and international trade.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticised Washington over the breakdown of negotiations but indicated that efforts to reach an agreement should continue.
Tehran has also called for an end to the uncertain situation between war and peace, as economic pressures weigh on the country.
The prospect of renewed US attacks has raised concerns about a wider regional confrontation.
Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned on Friday that further military action against Iran could intensify regional tensions, stressing that diplomacy remained the way forward.
Despite Trump’s latest remarks, no new US attack was confirmed in the reports available at the time of publication.
The situation remains uncertain, with the possibility of renewed military action existing alongside efforts to reach a diplomatic agreement.
