Government and private primary and secondary schools and madrasas across Bangladesh reopened on Monday (October 26) after a 10-day break for Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja and public holidays. Regular classes resumed at these institutions, while college students will have to wait a few more days to return to their classrooms.

According to the Education Ministry and the annual holiday calendars of educational institutions, the holidays at primary and secondary schools and madrasas began on October 18 to mark Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja and holidays declared by executive order.

The institutions had already been closed on October 16 and 17, Friday and Saturday, for the weekly weekend break. Although the scheduled holiday ended on October 22, the weekly holidays on October 23 and 24, followed by Lakshmi Puja on October 25, extended the closure to 10 consecutive days.

Government and private colleges have a longer holiday period. According to their annual holiday calendar, the break began on October 18 for Durga Puja, Vijaya Dashami, Prabarana Purnima and Lakshmi Puja and will continue until October 29.

As October 30 and 31 fall on Friday and Saturday, regular classes at colleges will resume on November 1.

Consequently, school and madrasa students returned to classrooms on Monday, while college students will enjoy six additional days off.
