Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first against the West Indies in the Mirpur Test on Wednesday, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto leaving experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim out of the playing XI.
Mushfiq sustained a finger injury during practice on Tuesday and did not bat afterwards. Although an X-ray found no serious problem and he was initially reported fit for the match, Bangladesh eventually decided not to include him in the side.
Towhid Hridoy has been named as Mushfiq’s replacement in the playing XI.
Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das, who missed the tri-nation series due to injury, has returned to the side after being declared fit for the Mirpur Test.
Bangladesh have opted for a bowling combination of three spinners and two pace bowlers.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan and Taijul Islam will lead the spin attack, while Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam will handle the pace duties.
Bangladesh XI: Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Litton Das, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam and Shoriful Islam.
