The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has handed over Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip, a close friend of former Bangladesh Air Force flight lieutenant KM Tahsif Sauri, to the River Police for further investigation into his mysterious death.

Dwip, who had spent nearly six hours with Tahsif before he went missing, was taken into PBI custody from a house in Babar Road, Mohammadpur, in the capital late on Thursday night (October 29).

On Friday, PBI officials took him to the Mazar Basti area beside the Turag River in Tongi to verify his account of the events surrounding Tahsif’s disappearance. He was subsequently handed over to the River Police early Saturday.

During questioning, Dwip claimed that he and Tahsif were at the Mazar Basti area when several people, including two wearing police uniforms, chased them.

According to his account, Tahsif ran away and eventually jumped into the Turag River, while Dwip hid behind a boundary pillar before leaving the area.

However, PBI officials found several inconsistencies in his statements.

He reportedly gave different accounts of why they had visited the area and whether anyone else, including a woman, was with them that night.

Based on information provided by Dwip, PBI recovered a black Suzuki Gixxer 150 motorcycle without a number plate from a field near the Turag River in Tongi on Friday morning.

The motorcycle was found around 3.5 kilometres from where Tahsif’s body was recovered. Investigators are checking its engine and chassis numbers to establish whether it belonged to Tahsif.

PBI officials are also examining Tahsif’s mobile phone records, WhatsApp call logs and messages through forensic analysis.

According to investigators, the two had contacted each other 10 to 12 times before midnight on the night Tahsif went missing.

Tahsif, 28, left his home in Sector 18 of Uttara on the evening of October 27.

His body was recovered from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Tongi on the afternoon of October 28.

His father, KM Enayetul Karim, has rejected the possibility of suicide, claiming that his son was an experienced swimmer and had received swimming training as part of his professional preparation as a pilot.

He has demanded a proper investigation into what he believes may have been a planned killing.

Meanwhile, samples collected during Tahsif’s autopsy, including blood and viscera, have been sent for laboratory tests to determine the cause of death.

The PBI has been conducting a shadow investigation and is handing over its findings to the River Police, which is handling the main investigation. The circumstances surrounding Tahsif’s death remain unclear.
