The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has taken Deep, a friend of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Souri, into custody in connection with his death.
Deep reportedly spent around six hours with Tahsif before he went missing on October 27, according to media reports published on Friday.
CCTV footage showed Tahsif meeting a man, later identified by his family as Deep, near a garage in the Rajuk Uttara Apartment Project in Dhaka’s Sector 18 at around 6:30pm that day. The two were seen leaving on separate motorcycles.
According to Deep’s account, Tahsif’s motorcycle developed a problem, prompting them to visit a workshop for repairs.
They later had dinner together before parting ways in Uttara around midnight.
Tahsif’s body was recovered from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat on October 28. His identity was confirmed through his wristwatch and an iPhone found in his pocket.
His body was autopsied at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital on Thursday before he was buried in Uttara.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear. Tahsif’s father, KM Enayetul Karim Helal, has expressed suspicion that his son was murdered.
However, the cause of death and whether anyone was involved have yet to be established through the investigation.
