DHAKA: A motorcycle has been found near the spot in the Turag River in Dhaka where the floating body of former Air Force officer KM Tahsif Sauri, 28, was recovered.
Ahmed Shahriar Reza Deep, described as a younger friend of Tahsif, told police during questioning that they were talking near the spot when a group of people chased them. Tahsif jumped into the river, while Deep fled the scene.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) recovered the motorcycle late Thursday night. According to the agency, it was found in the Mazar Basti area of Tongi, around 50 yards from the spot where Tahsif’s body was recovered.
PBI officials said the Rajabari Ghat area is known as a drug hotspot. They suspect Tahsif may have fallen into the river and drowned while fleeing from drug dealers.
Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Special Superintendent of Police of the Law and Media Wing at PBI Headquarters, told the media on Friday morning that investigators were verifying whether the recovered motorcycle belonged to Tahsif. However, their preliminary assessment suggests that it was likely his.
The recovered motorcycle has been taken to Uttarkhan Police Station. PBI is assisting the River Police in investigating the incident.
Tahsif left his home in Uttara, Dhaka, on Tuesday evening. At 1:35am that night, he sent his mother a voice message saying that he was returning home. However, he never came back.
On Wednesday afternoon, the River Police recovered his body from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in the Uttarkhan police station area.
Tahsif had taken his motorcycle with him when he left home. After his body was recovered, his family said the motorcycle was missing.
PBI has now reported recovering a motorcycle from the Mazar Basti area of Tongi, near Rajabari Ghat.
Before Tahsif went missing, CCTV footage showed him with another man. His family members identified the man as Deep.
