Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has announced the formation of four constituency-based coordination committees to assess damage caused by recent record rainfall and chronic waterlogging and recommend remedial measures.

The decision was taken at a meeting on Saturday with Members of Parliament Ershad Ullah, Mohammad Abu Sufian and Sayeed Al Noman at the CCC Rest House.

Each committee will include representatives from all relevant service agencies, including the Chattogram City Corporation, the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), Chattogram WASA and other agencies, to ensure coordinated action in identifying and addressing problems on the ground.

The meeting reviewed the impact of recent record rainfall on the city’s roads, drainage system and waterlogged areas, and outlined a joint action plan to tackle the problems.

“The civic problems of Chattogram cannot be solved by a single institution. A coordinated approach is the only sustainable solution,” Mayor Shahadat said, adding that the committees would inspect damaged infrastructure, identify waterlogging hotspots, canals and drainage bottlenecks, and recommend priority repair works.

The committees will cover the city’s four parliamentary constituencies—Chattogram-8, Chattogram-9, Chattogram-10 and Chattogram-11—and will coordinate with the respective lawmakers, including Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Ershad Ullah, Mohammad Abu Sufian and Sayeed Al Noman.

The committees will assess infrastructure damage caused by the recent heavy rains and submit recommendations for restoring roads, drainage systems and other public infrastructure to help reduce public suffering and accelerate recovery efforts.

Senior officials from the CDA, Chattogram WASA, the Bangladesh Water Development Board and other service agencies also attended the meeting.
