The Office of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has moved to seize the properties of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, both convicted of crimes against humanity.
Separate memorandums have been sent to the Home Ministry seeking necessary steps to bring their properties under state control.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Aminul Islam disclosed the development on Tuesday.
In a memorandum sent to the senior secretary of the Home Ministry concerning Hasina’s properties, the chief prosecutor referred to the verdict delivered by International Crimes Tribunal-1 on November 17, 2025.
In the verdict in ICT-BD Case No. 2 of 2025, Hasina, who was tried in absentia, was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity. The tribunal also ordered the confiscation of all her properties and their distribution as compensation to the families of those killed during the July uprising and other victims.
The memorandum warned that delays in bringing her movable and immovable assets under government control could allow them to be used, sold or transferred, potentially obstructing the implementation of the tribunal’s order.
It requested a comprehensive inventory of all her assets and immediate steps to bring them under state control.
The memorandum also called for necessary measures to distribute the confiscated properties as compensation to the families of those killed during the July uprising and other victims, in line with the tribunal’s directives.
The Chief Prosecutor’s Office has sent a separate memorandum to the Home Ministry seeking similar action to implement the confiscation order concerning Kamal’s properties.
