Acting Foreign Minister Humaiun Kobir has called for renewed Commonwealth action to strengthen climate resilience, mobilise investment and support the safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar.
He made the call while addressing a retreat session of the Pre-CHOGM Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting at the American University of Antigua in St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, on November 2.
Kobir stressed the need to operationalise the Loss and Damage Fund and establish a unified mechanism to mobilise investment within the Commonwealth.
He also sought concerted support from Commonwealth member states for the safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar.
Highlighting the increasingly complex global landscape, the acting foreign minister called for renewed efforts to address shared challenges, including peace and security, climate resilience, energy and food security, and the responsible use of emerging technologies.
Kobir is visiting Antigua and Barbuda to lead the Bangladesh delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), being held from November 1 to 4.
