A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha–West Bengal coast has remained nearly stationary and may intensify further, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said.
Due to its influence, squally weather is likely to affect the northern Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh’s coastal areas and nearby sea ports. The BMD on Thursday advised the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to continue displaying Local Cautionary Signal No. 3.
The low-pressure system formed over the same region on July 15, prompting the weather office to issue Signal No. 3 for all sea ports.
The BMD has also advised all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay to remain close to the coast and navigate with extreme caution until further notice. Fishermen have been urged not to venture into the deep sea as rough weather is expected to persist in the coastal region.
