Bangladesh’s Under-20 women’s hockey team has scripted a new chapter in the country’s sporting history by winning its first-ever international title.
The young Tigresses defeated Kazakhstan 2-0 in the final of the Women’s Junior AHF Cup in Muscat, Oman, on Saturday.
Bangladesh dominated from the outset, taking the lead in the 15th minute through a field goal by Irene Riya. Her outstanding performances throughout the tournament also earned her the Rising Star award.
Just four minutes later, Nadira Ema doubled Bangladesh’s advantage by converting a penalty corner. Kazakhstan failed to mount a comeback as Bangladesh comfortably sealed a 2-0 victory to lift the trophy.
Bangladesh remained unbeaten throughout the five-team tournament. They had also defeated Kazakhstan 2-1 in the group stage before overcoming the same opponents again in the final to clinch the championship.
The triumph marks the first international trophy in the history of Bangladesh women’s hockey. Previously, the country’s Under-21 women’s team finished runners-up in the 2024 edition of the Junior AHF Cup, securing qualification for the Junior Asia Cup.
This latest success surpasses that achievement and represents a historic milestone for Bangladesh women’s hockey.
