The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has launched a special drive targeting illegal hydraulic horns, unauthorized hooters, and other excessive noise-producing devices as part of efforts to curb noise pollution and improve road safety in the capital.
The operation was led by Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Anisur Rahman on Tuesday morning at Manik Mia Avenue, near the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. During the drive, officials were instructed to take strict legal action against vehicles fitted with such prohibited devices.
Authorities also urged vehicle owners and drivers to avoid the unnecessary use of horns, highlighting the harmful effects of noise pollution on public health, the environment, and overall urban life.
Speaking at the scene, Anisur Rahman emphasized that noise pollution is a growing concern in Dhaka, posing serious risks to residents’ well-being and the city’s environment.
He further announced that the DMP has initiated a week-long special campaign across the capital to address the issue. Motorists have been urged to comply with traffic regulations and act responsibly on the roads.
According to the DMP Traffic Division, such enforcement drives will continue regularly to ensure a safer, more disciplined, and citizen-friendly traffic system in Dhaka.
