At least four vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash on the Dhaka–Aricha Highway in Dhamrai, leaving two motorcyclists dead on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred around 8:00am in the Islampur area when a passenger bus broke down and stopped by the roadside. A private car behind the bus suddenly applied brakes upon noticing the stalled vehicle, prompting a covered van following it to brake as well.
Two motorcycles trailing the covered van also slowed down. However, a speeding minibus of Swadhinata Paribahan rammed into the motorcycles from behind, throwing the riders onto the road and causing critical injuries.
The injured were rushed to Dhamrai upazila Health Complex, where doctors later declared both dead.
The deceased were identified as Abas Saha, a postgraduate student at Debendra College in Manikganj and son of Jagannath Saha of Dendabor area in Ashulia, Savar, and Sujoy Saha, an HSC examinee from Shibalaya upazila in Manikganj. The two victims were cousins.
Sub-Inspector Shahadat Hossain of Savar Highway Police confirmed the incident, saying efforts are underway to contact the victims’ families. Further legal procedures will be taken after formal identification and documentation are completed.
