The Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat has urged Bangladeshi nationals not to pay money to individuals, beneficiaries or organizations based on misleading claims that Oman’s labour market has reopened.
The embassy issued the warning in a visa-related public awareness notice on Wednesday (August 12), following a wave of misleading claims on social media.
The embassy said a recent notice issued by the Oman Agricultural Association has been used to spread claims that “Oman’s labour market has reopened”, “large-scale visas have been launched” or “free visas are being issued”.
Clarifying the matter, the embassy said the notice was not an announcement by the Omani government to reopen its labour market.
The notice was intended to assess the demand for agricultural workers in Al Dhahirah governorate. If necessary, visas may be approved on a limited basis specifically for agricultural work in the Al Dhahirah region, the embassy said.
It stressed that there has been no announcement at this stage regarding recruitment of workers, issuance of visas or a reopening of Oman’s labour market.
The embassy also said the Omani government continues to enforce various restrictions on the recruitment of foreign workers as part of its labour-market restructuring and Omanisation policies.
It urged people not to fall for social media claims about the reopening of Oman’s labour market, large-scale visa issuance or “free visas”, and not to make payments to anyone or any organization based on such claims.
The embassy advised Bangladeshis to verify all information related to employment and visas in Oman only through official sources, including the Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET), and relevant Omani authorities.
The embassy said it is closely monitoring the situation and that any developments will be communicated in due course through its official Facebook page and website.
