The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has once again attempted to push 12 people into Bangladesh through the Shibganj border in Chapainawabganj.
However, the attempt was thwarted due to the prompt response of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents.
The incident took place on Friday night in the Muslimpara area of India, opposite the Chakpara Border Outpost (BOP) in Shibganj Upazila.
According to sources from the 59 BGB Battalion, at around 11:00 p.m., the BSF allegedly switched off the border lights and tried to send 12 men and women across the border into Bangladesh.
After receiving the information, BGB personnel rushed to the scene, while hundreds of local villagers also gathered along the border.
Faced with this resistance, the BSF abandoned the push-in attempt and took the individuals back into Indian territory.
By Saturday morning, it was learned that the BSF had transferred the group to the Malda Holding Centre in India.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Commanding Officer of the 59 BGB Battalion, said that the BGB has further strengthened border patrols, intelligence surveillance, and overall vigilance to prevent all forms of illegal border crossings.
He added that the cooperation of local residents has been playing a vital role in preventing such activities.
Earlier, on the night of June 19, the BSF had reportedly attempted to push 20 people, including women and children, into Bangladesh through the Chouka border in Shibganj Upazila after switching off the border lights.
That attempt was also unsuccessful due to resistance.
