Bangladesh’s border guards on Saturday foiled an alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push nine women into Bangladesh through the Bhaigar border in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur district.
The incident occurred at dawn near border pillar No. 291, Sub-Pillar 20-S, under the Ghasuria Border Outpost (BOP).
According to local sources, BSF personnel attempted to send the nine women across the border into Bangladesh. After receiving information, members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rushed to the spot, while local residents also gathered in support of the border guards.
Facing resistance from the BGB and local people, the BSF reportedly took the women back into Indian territory.
The incident created tension along the border for a short time, although the situation remained under control. Border forces of both countries later intensified patrols on their respective sides of the frontier.
- Alam, Company Commander of Ghasuria BOP, confirmed the incident.
“We have successfully prevented the illegal infiltration attempt, and BGB has further strengthened surveillance along the border,” he said.
