Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have thwarted an alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push three Indian women into Bangladesh through the Patgram border in Lalmonirhat.
According to BGB sources, the three women are currently staying approximately 150 yards inside Indian territory following the failed push-in attempt.
The incident occurred at around 4:45 a.m. on Saturday near the Dhabalsuti border in Patgram Sadar Union, opposite Kharkharia village under the Mekhliganj subdivision of Cooch Behar district, India.
BGB and local sources said that personnel from the 98 BSF Battalion’s Kharkharia Border Outpost (BOP) attempted to forcibly push the three Indian women into Bangladesh through the area between Main Pillar 833 and Sub-Pillar 9.
However, a patrol team from the Dhabalsuti BGB camp under the 61 Teesta BGB Battalion detected the movement and immediately issued a warning to the BSF. Facing resistance from the BGB, the BSF personnel withdrew from the border and escorted the three women back to a location about 150 yards inside Indian territory.
In a press release, the 61 Teesta BGB Battalion said its commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Syed Fazle Monim, spoke with the BSF commander regarding the incident and urged the Indian force to take back the individuals involved, preventing any attempt to push them into Bangladesh.
