Stocks extend gains as DSE, CSE rise

Bangladesh’s stock market ended the first trading session of the week on a positive note on Sunday, with all major indices closing higher amid increased trading activity.

The benchmark DSEX index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) rose 43.55 points to close at 5,787.41. The Shariah-based DSES index gained 9.18 points to 1,178.11, while the DS30 index advanced 29.31 points to 2,191.32.

Market turnover also increased, with total transactions on the DSE reaching Tk 15.30 billion, up from Tk 14.40 billion in the previous session.

Of the 389 listed companies and mutual funds traded on the DSE, share prices of 177 advanced, 153 declined and 59 remained unchanged.

Market analysts said the stock market has shown greater stability since the new government assumed office, with both market indices and trading volume reaching their highest levels in the past two years. They expressed optimism that the positive trend could continue.

They also advised investors to focus on fundamentally strong companies, noting that many quality stocks are still trading at relatively attractive prices. However, they urged investors to carefully assess companies’ financial performance and business prospects before making investment decisions.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also posted gains, with its CASPI index rising 97.28 points to close at 15,505.05.

Turnover at the CSE increased to Tk 669.3 million from Tk 603.6 million in the previous session. Among the 256 securities traded, 142 advanced, 96 declined and 18 remained unchanged.
