All major indices at the Dhaka Stock Exchange closed higher on Monday, although turnover declined from the previous session as investors adopted a cautious approach.

Market participants said the stock market has been gradually regaining stability under the current government, resulting in stronger investor participation and a positive trend in both share prices and trading activity. However, some alleged that market manipulators are trying to undermine the improving market environment.

According to market observers, the market remained upbeat from the opening bell. Trading momentum slowed after midday due to what they described as attempts by a group of manipulators to influence the market. Despite this, the benchmark indices maintained their gains until the close, while the slower pace of trading led to lower turnover.

Analysts said the market’s positive momentum could be sustained if investors remain vigilant and regulators further strengthen market oversight.

The benchmark DSEX index rose 12.10 points to close at 5,799.51.

The DSES index gained 4.89 points to finish at 1,183.01, while the DS30 index added 1.20 points to end the day at 2,192.53.

A total of 392 companies and mutual funds were traded on the DSE. Of them, 166 advanced, 155 declined and 71 remained unchanged.

Turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 1,416.57 crore, down from Tk 1,530.07 crore in the previous session, a decrease of about Tk 113.5 crore.

Meanwhile, turnover at the Chittagong Stock Exchange fell sharply to Tk 16.59 crore from Tk 66.93 crore in the previous trading session.
