Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will move into Bangabhaban on Sunday (August 23), according to his office.

He is scheduled to leave his official residence on Minto Road for Bangabhaban at 10:50am.

Upon his arrival at Gate 2 of Bangabhaban, a police contingent will escort the president to the Guard of Honour stage. A smartly turned-out contingent of the President Guard Regiment will then present him with a Guard of Honour.

Following the ceremony, President Mirza Fakhrul will proceed to his office at Bangabhaban and begin his official duties from the presidential palace.

Mirza Fakhrul was sworn in as Bangladesh’s 23rd president on Friday evening after serving for many years as secretary general of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Before his election as president, he was serving as the minister for local government.

He won the presidential election on Thursday as the BNP candidate, securing 255 votes.

On Saturday morning, the newly elected president is scheduled to visit the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War. He will lay a wreath at the memorial and receive a Guard of Honour from representatives of the three armed forces.

After the ceremony, he is expected to return to his Minto Road residence and may later travel to his Gulshan residence.
