The government has reconstituted the 10-member Cabinet Committee on National Awards, appointing Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan as its convener.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification on August 25, saying the committee will scrutinise proposals submitted by different ministries and make recommendations for conferring national awards.
The other members are Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed; Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury; Industries, Textiles and Jute and Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir; Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman; Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee; Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu; State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Md Rajib Ahsan; and State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Hoque.
The notification said a separate nine-member secretariat committee, headed by the Cabinet Secretary, has also been formed to provide necessary assistance to the Cabinet Committee on National Awards.
The principal secretary to the prime minister or secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office, along with the secretaries of finance, health, education, commerce, information and broadcasting, and other relevant ministries, will serve as members of the secretariat committee.
The Cabinet Committee on National Awards has been entrusted with scrutinising proposals received from different ministries, recommending arrangements for the formal presentation of national awards and related programmes, and assessing the need to introduce new national awards.
The committee will also make recommendations on introducing such awards when necessary.
The Cabinet Division will provide overall support for implementing the committee’s decisions.
The notification said the previous notification issued on February 25, 2026, regarding the formation of the committee has been cancelled. The new order came into effect immediately.
