A man was killed after being stabbed with a sharp object during a domestic dispute at a house on Nazimuddin Road in Old Dhaka on Tuesday.

The incident took place at around 11:30 am in a fourth-floor apartment in Zamindar Goli.

The deceased was identified as Sumon, 42, son of Nabi Mia from Kamalganj Upazila in Habiganj. He worked as a daily wage employee at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Burn Unit.

According to police and hospital sources, Sumon had been living in the Nazimuddin Road apartment with his second wife, Nasima Akter. His first wife, Dolly Begum, lives in the Hosni Dalan area with their two sons and a daughter.

Nasima, who took Sumon to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said he had come to her residence on Monday night. She alleged that Tk 1,500 went missing from the house and that she saw Sumon using drugs in the bathroom that night.

She said an argument broke out on Tuesday morning over the missing money and the alleged drug use. During the altercation, Sumon allegedly assaulted her and struck her with a sharp iron object.

According to Nasima, the couple then became involved in a physical struggle, during which the sharp object became lodged in Sumon’s chest. He began bleeding heavily and was rushed to the hospital by Nasima, where doctors later declared him dead.

Police are investigating the incident to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
