The government has approved the purchase of 10,000 metric tonnes of lentils for the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) at a cost of Tk 76.79 crore.
The approval was given at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held at the Secretariat on Wednesday, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
According to a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce, the lentils will be procured locally through an open national tender.
The TCB will implement the procurement.
Following completion of the tender process, the Tender Evaluation Committee (TEC) recommended purchasing the lentils from the lowest bidder, Zaytun Auto Rice and Dal Mills Ltd of Khulna.
The procurement is part of the government’s efforts to ensure adequate supplies of essential commodities through TCB.
