DHAKA: The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment has issued a directive barring the issuance of emigration clearance for Bangladeshi workers travelling to 12 countries without its prior approval.
The directive was issued through a notification sent by the ministry on Wednesday (November 4).
The 12 countries are Serbia, Moldova, Belarus, Congo, Russia, Japan, Iraq, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Ukraine and Libya.
According to the notification, emigration clearance will not be issued for workers travelling to these countries without recruitment permission or approval from the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
The notification also advised Bangladeshi workers seeking employment in these countries to refrain from making financial transactions or taking final decisions before verifying the recruitment process, ministry approval and emigration clearance.
It further urged prospective migrant workers not to be swayed by false promises or decisions made on the advice of brokers.
Workers have been advised to ensure government approval, a legitimate recruitment process and safe migration arrangements before preparing to travel abroad.
