The Houthi rebels launched several missiles at the presidential palace complex in Yemen’s southern port city of Aden on Thursday, according to Yemeni government officials.

The Al-Maashiq Palace serves as the headquarters of Yemen’s internationally recognised government.

Witnesses reported hearing loud explosions in the vicinity of the complex, while smoke was seen rising from the site.

According to reports, the Houthis claimed they had targeted a military operations headquarters and weapons depots at the palace complex, alleging that the facility was being operated by Saudi officers.

Yemen’s Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani said the rebels fired five missiles at the palace. The country’s prime minister and other cabinet ministers were reported to be unharmed.

The attack came amid escalating tensions between the Iran-backed Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, further raising security concerns in the region.

The incident marked a rare direct attack on the palace complex, which houses key government offices in Aden, the interim capital of Yemen’s internationally recognised government.
