Garment workers in Gazipur have again taken to the streets, blocking a major highway and bringing vehicular movement to a halt amid ongoing protests demanding higher wages.
The protests have been continuing in several industrial areas, including Konabari, Safipur, Mouchak and Palli Bidyut, over the demand for a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000.
The blockade has disrupted traffic on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway, causing significant inconvenience to commuters and long-distance passengers.
The unrest has continued despite the government’s decision to form a new wage board.
Police and industrial police personnel have been deployed in the affected areas to maintain law and order. bdnews24.com +1
