Allegations of irregularities and corruption have surfaced over recruitment, transfers, promotions and postings at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, involving former adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan and others concerned.
A complaint filed with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleges that Tk 7.6 million was transacted in connection with the posting of 38 Upazila Youth Development Officers under the Department of Youth Development.
According to the complaint, an average of around Tk 200,000 was allegedly taken from each officer in exchange for cancelling their additional-charge assignments and issuing fresh posting orders.
The complaint also alleges large-scale financial transactions in the promotion of 150 Assistant Upazila Youth Development Officers and their subsequent postings to preferred locations.
According to documents submitted to the ACC, a total of Tk 15 million was allegedly paid for the promotions of the 150 officers, while another Tk 20 million was allegedly exchanged for posting them to their preferred places after promotion.
The total amount involved in the allegations concerning the recruitment, promotion and posting of the officials stands at Tk 42.6 million.
ACC Forms Special Team to Investigate
The ACC has launched an inquiry into the allegations and formed a four-member special team for the investigation.
ACC Deputy Director Md Zahid Kalam is leading the team, with Assistant Director Nasrullah Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director Imran Akon and Deputy Assistant Director Roman Uddin as members.
ACC Deputy Director (Public Relations) Aktarul Islam told Kalbela that the commission had decided to investigate allegations against former adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan and others concerned over alleged promotion and transfer trading, postings and other irregularities.
The investigation team will examine relevant documents and verify information related to the allegations. If the allegations are substantiated, further legal action will be taken, according to the ACC.
