The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted an operation at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Hospital in Dhaka on Sunday over allegations of coronary stents being sold above the prices set by the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA).
The ACC’s Enforcement Unit also received complaints that patients were being charged extra and harassed while receiving services at the hospital.
Tanzir Ahmed, assistant director of the ACC’s public relations department, confirmed the operation.
According to the ACC, its headquarters launched the drive following allegations that coronary stents were being sold at prices higher than the officially fixed rates, along with other irregularities in patient services.
During the operation, the enforcement team randomly collected information and records of patients who had recently undergone stent implantation at the hospital. The team is examining the records to verify the prices of the stents and the amounts collected from patients.
The team also gathered information from patients currently admitted to the hospital to determine whether they faced any irregularities or harassment while receiving treatment.
The ACC said it would review the information and documents collected during the operation and submit a detailed report to the commission.
