BGB foils another BSF push-in attempt in Jhenaidah

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has foiled another alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push four people into Bangladesh through the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah.

The incident occurred around **1:30pm on Saturday** near the Chapaltala Mazar area under the Kusumpur Border Outpost (BOP) of the Maheshpur-based 58 BGB Battalion, according to BGB officials.

A BGB patrol team from the Kusumpur BOP intercepted the four people near the zero line when BSF personnel were allegedly attempting to push them across the border into Bangladesh.

The attempt was reportedly made by personnel of the **Mahendra Camp of BSF’s 194 Battalion**.

The group comprised **two men, a woman and a child**. Their identities and nationalities could not immediately be confirmed.

Following the BGB intervention, the four people remained about **150 yards inside Indian territory** from the zero line, officials said.

BGB officials said the matter had been brought to the attention of the commander of BSF’s 194 Battalion.

Assistant Director of 58 BGB Battalion Munshi Imdadur Rahman said in a press release that the border force remained alert to prevent push-ins, illegal entry and other cross-border activities.

He said vigilance had been strengthened along the border to prevent further attempts to push people into Bangladesh and to maintain peace and stability in the frontier areas.

The latest incident comes amid heightened sensitivity along Bangladesh’s border with India over alleged attempts to push people across the frontier without following established legal and repatriation procedures.

BGB and BSF are responsible for maintaining security along the Bangladesh-India border, and movements across the international boundary are required to follow the relevant bilateral arrangements and legal procedures.

Authorities in Bangladesh have repeatedly stressed that any repatriation or return of individuals should take place through proper verification and established diplomatic and border-security mechanisms rather than through unilateral push-ins.

The BGB said it would continue monitoring the frontier closely and take necessary measures to prevent unauthorised entry and maintain border security.
