An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Pallabi Police Station has been arrested in Dhaka with yaba tablets, along with another alleged drug dealer.
The ASI was identified as Md Shafiqul Islam, 43, while the other arrestee is Md Wasim, 24.
According to police, South Khan Police arrested Wasim during a raid at Azampur Kitchen Market on Sunday night after recovering 50 yaba tablets from him.
Based on information provided by Wasim, police later raided a rented flat and arrested ASI Shafiqul with 200 yaba tablets.
Police subsequently raided another flat at Noor Building in Bismillah Palli, Azampur, and recovered an additional 5,110 yaba tablets. The total seizure amounted to 5,310 yaba tablets.
A case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act with South Khan Police Station on Monday. The two accused were subsequently sent to jail by a court.
According to the case statement, the arrested individuals allegedly admitted during preliminary interrogation that they had been bringing yaba from different parts of the country and selling it in South Khan and surrounding areas.
Pallabi Police said Shafiqul had been working there irregularly.
The officer-in-charge said he had joined the station only last month and had attended duty for no more than eight to 10 days.
A report on his irregular attendance had already been submitted to higher authorities.
