Ahmadul Kobir, Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia has repatriated 255 foreign nationals, including 28 Bangladeshis, from the Nenas Town Immigration Depot during the third week of August following the completion of their detention and legal procedures.
The repatriated migrants comprised 178 Indonesians, 28 Bangladeshis, 20 Myanmar nationals, six Cambodians, six Nepalese, six Pakistanis, four Indians, three Thais and two Vietnamese. One Sri Lankan and one Filipino national were also returned to their respective countries.
Immigration Depot authorities said on Monday, August 24, that the detainees were repatriated through Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), as well as through Pasir Gudang.
The deportations followed the completion of prison sentences and other legal procedures related to various offences under Malaysia’s Penal Code 1957 (Act 574), Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234), Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), Immigration Regulations 1963 and other relevant laws.
According to the authorities, the costs of repatriation, including airfares, were covered by the detainees themselves or their families. In some cases, the respective embassies provided financial assistance, including covering the cost of air tickets to the migrants’ home countries.
The repatriated individuals have all been blacklisted in Malaysia’s Immigration Department system. As a result, they will not be permitted to re-enter Malaysia for any purpose during the period specified under the relevant immigration regulations.
The latest repatriation is part of Malaysia’s continuing enforcement and deportation process involving foreign nationals who have violated immigration or other laws and completed the required legal procedures.
Bangladeshis form one of the largest groups of foreign workers in Malaysia, and Malaysian authorities regularly carry out immigration enforcement operations targeting undocumented migrants and those found violating the conditions of their permits.
The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur routinely provides consular assistance to Bangladeshi nationals detained by Malaysian authorities, including citizenship verification and support related to repatriation.
