Admiral Stephen Koehler, Commander of the US Pacific Fleet, is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Tuesday for a three-day official visit to Bangladesh.
According to sources, Admiral Koehler will lead a 22-member US Navy delegation during the visit.
He is expected to hold meetings with senior Bangladeshi military and defence officials to discuss issues of mutual interest.
The visit comes just three days after the trip to Bangladesh by US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor, making it the second high-level US visit within a week.
Officials view the back-to-back visits as part of growing strategic engagement and expanding bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States.
In recent months, the two countries have stepped up discussions on trade, investment, security, maritime cooperation, and regional stability.
People familiar with the matter said Admiral Koehler’s visit could also explore new areas of defence cooperation between the two countries.
