Pakistan has said that no other country is currently being considered for inclusion in the Makkah Defence Pact, and that no discussions are underway on expanding the agreement.

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider made the remarks while responding to questions at a briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.

Asked about the possibility of including other countries in the pact, Haider said Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye—the three current members—hold regular meetings and consultations at various levels and remain in constant contact.

“However, there is currently no proposal under consideration to expand the Makkah Pact or include any new country,” he said.

He said the three existing members should first strengthen their cooperation and organisational framework under the pact. This could potentially open the way for other countries with similar perspectives and needs to join the alliance in the future.

Any decision on expansion would be taken later through mutual consultations among the three countries, he said.

The spokesperson added that no discussions on the issue are currently taking place, making it premature to raise the question of admitting new members at this stage.
