Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by the recent floods and landslides in Bangladesh, reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with the country during the humanitarian crisis.

In a condolence message, President Zardari said Pakistan stands firmly with the Government and the people of Bangladesh in this difficult time.

He conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the families who lost loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured, as well as the safety and well-being of all people affected by the disaster.

Bangladesh has been hit by severe flooding and landslides triggered by days of incessant rainfall and upstream water flow, particularly in the southeastern and northeastern regions.

According to the latest official figures, the disaster has claimed at least 51 lives, while hundreds of thousands of people have been affected across seven districts. Rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts are continuing as floodwaters inundate vast areas and damage homes, roads and agricultural land.
