Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated Bangladesh’s President-elect Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election.
In a congratulatory message posted on the Pakistan High Commission’s page on Friday (August 21), Zardari expressed hope that Bangladesh would achieve further progress and advance the welfare of its people under Fakhrul’s leadership.
The Pakistani president said Pakistan and Bangladesh shared close ties based on their common history, religious beliefs and cultural bonds.
He welcomed what he described as positive momentum in bilateral relations and expressed hope for expanded cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Zardari said he looked forward to working with President-elect Fakhrul to further strengthen relations between the two countries and promote greater contact and cooperation between their peoples.
He also invited Fakhrul to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient time, saying such a visit would provide an important opportunity to further strengthen bilateral ties and deepen mutual cooperation.
Zardari concluded by wishing Fakhrul success in carrying out his responsibilities and expressing his hopes for peace, progress and prosperity for the people of Bangladesh.
