The death toll from devastating flash floods in Nepal on Wednesday has risen to 332.
Nepal Police said 332 bodies had been recovered from eight districts by 3:45pm on Thursday. Police spokesperson Abi Narayan Kafle confirmed the latest figures to The Kathmandu Post. The death toll stood at 289 earlier Thursday morning, meaning 43 more bodies were recovered within hours.
According to police, Chitwan recorded the highest number of deaths, with 121 bodies recovered so far. Nawalparasi East reported 74 deaths, Dhading and Gorkha 29 each, Nuwakot 28, Tanahun 19, Rasuwa 17 and Nawalparasi West 15.
The Nepal Army, police and other security agencies are continuing search and rescue operations in the affected areas. Families stranded in high-risk locations are being evacuated to safer places, while rescue teams are working with local residents to clear roads blocked by landslides and flood debris.
The floods originating near the Tibet border swept through Rasuwa and several other districts before hitting the Trishuli and Narayani river basins downstream, destroying settlements, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure.
Authorities fear the death toll may rise further as search operations for missing people continue.
