The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has approved an order to appoint 14,384 assistant teachers who were recommended for jobs in government primary schools, clearing the way for them to join by October 1.

Officials from the ministry and the Directorate of Primary Education confirmed the development on Thursday.

An official of the Directorate said the administrative order has been approved to send appointment letters for the teachers to the respective district primary education offices. Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan signed the order on Thursday.

The Directorate plans to begin the joining process in the final week of September, subject to receiving the ministry’s instructions. Officials expect all recommended teachers to receive their appointment letters by October 1, after which they will be posted to schools.

Training before classroom teaching

The newly appointed teachers will undergo training after joining and will not be assigned classroom duties before completing it.

Farid Ahmed, director general of the National Academy for Primary Education (NAPE), said the teachers would receive two months of training. They will be allowed to take classes after completing the training.

Asked whether teachers could lose their jobs for failing the training assessment, Farid said he did not think appointments would be cancelled on that ground. However, the final decision rests with the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

A written recruitment test for assistant teachers was held simultaneously in 61 districts on January 9, excluding the three hill districts. Of 69,265 candidates who passed the written test, 14,384 were selected after the subsequent recruitment process.

The final results were published on February 8, with district-wise lists of the selected candidates.

Although the candidates had completed the written and oral examinations and received final recommendations, they had not yet been able to join their posts.

Following protests by the recommended candidates, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education announced that their joining and posting would be completed by October 1.
