The 817 candidates who have yet to receive appointment letters for assistant teacher posts at government primary schools will be appointed by October 1, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said on Monday.

“There are 817 candidates still awaiting appointment. They will be appointed by October 1. We will work on the cases of those who are not appointed,” he said.

The minister made the remarks at a meeting of the national steering committee held at the Education Ministry’s conference room at the Secretariat in Dhaka as part of preparations for World Teachers’ Day.

He said nearly 1.07 million candidates had taken part in the recruitment examination conducted during the interim government’s tenure, while 33,854 final applications had been received.

The recruitment authorities subsequently carried out verification of the candidates’ information, including their addresses. Some candidates had changed their addresses, requiring additional verification and submission of updated information, he said.

“Verification is being conducted in phases and we are receiving the updated addresses. We are reviewing the cases of those whose appointments have not yet been finalised. The process will continue until October 1,” Milon said.
