Yunus congratulates Mirza Fakhrul

Professor Muhammad Yunus has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as Bangladesh’s 23rd president, expressing hope that the country will move towards greater prosperity, justice and democracy under his leadership.

In his message, Yunus extended his “heartfelt congratulations and best wishes” to Mirza Fakhrul on being elected president of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

He said Mirza Fakhrul’s political career spans more than five decades and is closely intertwined with Bangladesh’s political history.

His organisational skills, wisdom, leadership during crises and experience of working closely with people at the grassroots have established him as a distinctive figure in national politics, Yunus said.

Describing Mirza Fakhrul as an academic, experienced politician and gentleman, Yunus said his assumption of the new responsibility would further uphold the dignity of the country’s highest constitutional office.

Yunus expressed hope that Bangladesh would advance towards greater prosperity, justice and democracy under President Mirza Fakhrul’s leadership.

He also wished him good health, long life and every success in discharging his responsibilities.
