Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to move into his official residence, Bangabhaban, today (Sunday), following his swearing-in as the country’s 23rd president.
According to the President’s Office, Fakhrul will leave his government residence on Minto Road at 10:50am and head for Bangabhaban.
Upon his arrival at Gate No. 2 of Bangabhaban, a police team will escort him to a designated stage, where the President Guard Regiment will present him with a guard of honour.
He will then proceed to his office at Bangabhaban.
Fakhrul was elected president in Parliament on Thursday, securing 255 votes against 88 received by his rival, Col (retd) Oli Ahmed.
He was sworn in as the 23rd president at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on Friday evening, with Acting Speaker Kayser Kamal administering the oath.
Before moving to Bangabhaban, President Fakhrul paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar on Saturday.
