The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has completed interviews with three nomination hopefuls for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election, party Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Friday.
The interviews were held at the BNP chairman’s political office in Gulshan in the evening. The party’s nomination board, comprising members of its National Standing Committee, conducted the interviews.
The three aspirants are Mirza Faisal Amin, Sultanul Ferdous Chowdhury and Obaidullah Masud. Faisal Amin is the younger brother of BNP President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and president of the Thakurgaon district BNP.
Sultanul Ferdous is a former chairman of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Parishad, while Obaidullah previously served in the Chhatra Dal and Thakurgaon Government College Students’ Union.
The Thakurgaon-1 seat fell vacant after Mirza Fakhrul assumed office as Bangladesh’s president on August 21.
The Election Commission has scheduled the by-election for October 29. The deadline for submitting nomination papers is September 27, while the deadline for withdrawal of candidacies is October 7.
BNP is expected to finalise its candidate following the nomination board’s decision.
