CNG drivers protest across Dhaka

CNG auto-rickshaw drivers blocked roads and staged protests in different parts of Dhaka on Monday (October 5), protesting the disconnection of electricity supplies to several rickshaw garages in the capital.

The drivers had announced a strike from Monday after campaigning with loudspeakers in different areas on Sunday, urging drivers to keep their vehicles off the roads.

As a significant number of auto-rickshaws remained off the streets, pressure on other public transport increased, causing inconvenience to office-goers, students and other commuters. The disruption was particularly severe in areas where residents heavily rely on auto-rickshaws for daily travel.

Road blockades by the drivers also disrupted traffic in several areas, with congestion reported at some points.

The drivers said electricity connections had been cut at various rickshaw garages, disrupting their livelihoods and making it difficult to operate and charge their vehicles.

They said they would continue their movement until the electricity supply issue is resolved.
