The Energy and Mineral Resources Division has assured that Bangladesh has sufficient fuel reserves and there is no shortage of petroleum products in the country.
At an emergency briefing on Wednesday, Joint Secretary (Operations) of the division Monir Hossain Chowdhury said the country currently has reserves of 31 days of diesel, 36 days of octane, 20 days of petrol, 20 days of jet fuel and 25 days of furnace oil.
He said rumours of a fuel crisis were being spread as part of an attempt to create artificial panic.
Monir said 180,000 tonnes of diesel are expected to arrive by the end of this month, with another 240,000 tonnes scheduled to reach Bangladesh in August, ensuring uninterrupted supply.
On the gas situation, he said daily demand stands at 3,800 million cubic feet, while current supply is around 2,700–2,800 million cubic feet.
He added that a technical glitch at an LNG floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) had caused temporary disruptions, which are expected to be resolved within two days.
Addressing concerns over Middle East tensions, Monir said crude oil imports remain uninterrupted through alternative routes.
He added that contingency plans are in place to ensure supply continuity if existing routes face further disruptions.
