Bangladesh’s beloved film actor Salman Shah is being remembered today on what would have been his 55th birthday.
Born on September 19, 1971, in Zakiganj, Sylhet, the actor became one of the most influential stars in Bangladeshi cinema despite his short career.
Salman Shah, whose real name was Shahriar Chowdhury Emon, made his film debut with Keyamat Theke Keyamat in 1993.
The film’s success quickly established him as a leading star, and he went on to act in 27 films during his brief career.
His popular films include Tumi Amar, Antorey Antorey, Shopner Thikana, Ei Ghor Ei Shongshar, Bichar Hobe, Chawa Theke Pawa and Anondo Osru. His pairing with actress Shabnur became one of the most celebrated on-screen duos in Bangladeshi cinema.
Salman Shah also became known for his distinctive fashion sense, screen presence and modern portrayal of the Bangladeshi hero.

He died on September 6, 1996, at the age of 25. His death has remained a subject of controversy, with his family disputing the official conclusion.
